India: Tata Metaliks reduces pig iron prices by up to INR 1,400/t

Tata Metaliks has reduced pig iron prices by INR 1,200-1,400/t ($16-19) due to weakening demand on falling steel prices. Prices of foundry grade material were reduced by INR 1,200/t to INR 42,400/t, while for basic grade pig iron (Si 1-1.5%) prices were reduced by INR 1,400/t to INR 39,200/t. The prices are exw-Kharagpur and applicable for the Kolkata and Howrah markets.

  • Private mills have reduced steel grade pig iron prices by INR 1,000/t w-o-w in eastern India and current offers stand at INR 37,500-38,000/t, exw-Durgapur.
  • Tata Metaliks’s production capacity is 550,000 t/year of hot metal, out of which over 200,000 t is converted into ductile iron (DI) pipes and the rest into pig iron.
