India: Steel Ministry recommends removal of customs duty on ferro nickel imports

The Union Steel Ministry has requested the Finance Ministry to remove the basic customs duty of 2.5% on ferronickel, a primary raw material for used in the production of stainless steel. If the duty is lifted, stainless steel producers will be able to reduce input costs since ferronickel is required for corrosion-free steel used in industries such as automotive, defence, rail and infrastructure.
