Shortfall in power supply has risen to 5,845 million units (MU) in FY’22, up 20% y-o-y from 4,871 MU in FY’21. The uptick has overturned the steady decline in deficit volumes seen over the last decade, driven by the steep rise in power demand. The situation remains critical amid low stockpiles at power plants during peak summer time which has forced several state governments to impose power cuts to compensate the deficit.
