In Aug’22, three vessels with a combined light displacement tonnage (LDT) of 29,789 were received at Alang yard for recycling, an increase of 23% on the month compared to 24,198 LDT received in Jul. Bids by Indian buyers improved on steady local steel demand. The market saw a surge in demand for small-sized tonnage which buyers competed fiercely to acquire.
