India: SAIL Rourkela, NMDC schedule crude coal tar auctions on 10 Jul’26

  • Market eyes SAIL’s second attempt after unsuccessful auction
  • NMDC’s latest offer to test prevailing crude coal tar demand

SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant has notified 10,000 tonnes (t) of crude coal tar for auction on 10 July 2026. The offering follows its previous auction held on 6 July, which failed to attract any bids as the bid price of INR 59,000/t was considered too high by market participants.

Meanwhile, NMDC has scheduled an auction of 2,000 t of crude coal tar on 10 July. In its previous auction held on 4 July, the company allocated 1,200 t against an offered quantity of 1,500 t, with the material sold at a weighted average price of INR 56,000/t, resulting in an allocation ratio of 80%.

Market sentiment

Buying interest in the domestic crude coal tar market remains cautious as downstream consumers continue to procure on a need-based basis amid comfortable material availability. The absence of bids in SAIL Rourkela’s previous auction indicates resistance to higher asking prices, while NMDC’s partial allocation at a comparatively lower realised price suggests that buyers remain price-sensitive.
