India: RSP achieves record production figures in Jan’14

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) one of the group companies of steel giant Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has achieved the best ever month production in major areas in January this year besides an all time high production figures in the first ten months of FY14.

RSP recorded an impressive performance in January with ‘Best-Month-since-inception’ records being set in many areas like hot metal (2.39 lakh tons), crude steel (2.13 lakh tons), saleable steel (2.12 lakh tons), sinter (3.36 lakh tons) and hot rolled coil total (1.66 lakh tons).

On January 31, the hot strip mill rolled out 8804 tons of HR coil, the best of the mill for any single day.

Coke Rate, one of key techno-economic parameters too was the best ever for any month since inception at 520 kg per ton of Hot Metal, RSP sources reported.

By producing 2.1 million tons (MT) of hot metal, 1.92 MT of crude steel and 1.88 MT of saleable steel in April-2013 to January-2014 period, RSP registered its best ever record.

It bettered its performance over the corresponding period last year by 6.8 per cent, 4.2 per cent and 6 per cent respectively in the respective segments, sources from the company reported.

Besides, highest ever production of sinter (3.12 MT), plate mill plates (4.13 lakh tons) and hot rolled coil for sale (7.89 lakh tons) has been achieved by the Steel Plant.
