Reliance Power’s coal based Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) with total capacity of 3,960 MW, is planning to start its second 660 MW unit in last week’s Friday.
Reliance Power, one of power producing companies under Anil Ambani group, has started boiler at its Sasan power plant in Madhya Pradesh on Friday, and estimating to start its second 660 MW unit next month.
Sasan based plant has started its first unit of 660 MW in March. It’s noted that in next step they are testing the second unit of 660 MW and moving forward to make it operational from next month.
Reliance Power’s Sasan project is the first of three 3,960 MW plants that Reliance Power is building under the country’s ultra-mega power plant (UMPP) scheme to help overcome the country’s continuous power shortage.
For Sasan UMPP, Reliance power has been allocated three captive coal mine blocks – Moher,
Moher Amlori extension and Chhatrasal with total reserves of more than 750 MnT. However, coal production has started from the 20 MnT per annum capacity from Moher and Moher-Amlohri mines.
Reliance Power is building another 3 UMPP’s in different part of the country, 2 in Madhya Pradesh (including Sasan based Project), 1 in Andhra Pradesh in Jharkhand.
