India: Refineries lift pet coke prices for Mar’25

  • RIL increases offers by INR 1,128/t in Mar
  • Nayara Energy hikes tags by INR 1,080/t

Indian refineries raised pet coke offers for March 2025 sales following a price hike by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). In March 2025, RIL raised its pet coke prices by INR 1,128/tonne (t) m-o-m to INR 14,578/t compared to February’s INR 13,450/t.

RIL continues to release minimal quantities in the market, prioritising the requirements of its gasification units. Since last month, RIL has started sourcing pet coke from IOCL’s Koyali refinery by rakes to meet demand from its gasifiers, limiting material availability for the cement industry.

CPCL: Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) announced a price hike of INR 940/t m-o-m to INR 14,570/t ex-Chennai, effective 1 March. This increase is higher than last month’s INR 630/t m-o-m rise. CPCL, with monthly volumes of 40,000-45,000 t, serves Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh via road dispatches.

BPCL: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) increased pet coke prices at both its refineries.

  • Bina Refinery – Rail supply prices rose INR 1,006/t m-o-m to INR 14,297/t, while road transportation tags remained INR 50/t lower. The refinery continues to use road and rail transport.
  • Kochi Refinery – Rail supply prices saw a sharper hike of INR 1,705/t m-o-m to INR 12,651/t. Kochi maintains a steady supply of 85,000-90,000 t/month, primarily via rail.

MRPL: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) increased prices by INR 1,080/t m-o-m, adjusting rates to INR 11,670/t for road and INR 11,370/t for rail/barge. The INR 300/t differential between transport modes reflects cost optimisation.

Nayara Energy: Nayara Energy raised prices by INR 1,080/t m-o-m to INR 14,930/t ex-refinery. Historically, Nayara has tended to align its pricing with market trends. This month, its rate remains higher than RIL’s, amid stable supply conditions.
