India: Prakash Industries expanding melting capacity by 500 tpd

Prakash Industries Ltd, Central India’s leading steelmaker through the induction furnace (IF) route, is expanding its melting capacity with the commissioning of two new energy-efficient IFs. Sources informed SteelMint that each furnace has a capacity of 20 t/heats, which is equivalent to production of 250 t per day from each furnace. Thus, new installed capacity totals 500 t per day. The company’s current capacity stands at 1.25 mn t per annum, which is equivalent to 4,000 tonnes per day (tpd).

The company’s operational highlights in FY’21 vs FY’20:

  • Highest yearly sales of 9.55 lakh tonnes (t) of steel, up by 3%
  • Highest yearly production of 9.06 lakh t of DRI, up by 11%
  • Total mining output at 4. 7 lakh t of iron ore from the Sirkaguttu mine in Odisha.
