The Odisha government has approved investment proposals worth INR 1.46 lakh crore in the metals sector, with an aim to increase the state’s steel production to 100 mn t over the next few years. The approved projects:
- Expanding the capacity of Bhushan Power and Steel – recently acquired by JSW Steel Ltd.
- Tata Steel’s Kalinganagar plant capacity will be increased to 8 mn t/year from 3 mn t.
- JSPL’s Angul plant will have an installed capacity of 25 mn t/year from 6 mn t, making it the largest single location steel plant in the world.
- Expanding the downstream capacities of the Keonjhar and Dhenkanal units of Rungta Mines to 3 mn t and 7.55 mn t/year respectively.
