India: NMDC’s iron ore production, sales decrease m-o-m in Feb’22

India’s largest iron ore miner, NMDC, produced 4.31 million tonnes (mnt) of the steel-making raw material in Feb’22, down by 5% m-o-m, compared to 4.56 mnt in Jan’22, SteelMint learnt from the company’s recent BSE filing.

Out of the total volume produced in Feb’22, a major chunk was recorded from NMDC’s Chhattisgarh mines at 3.25 mnt, while the remaining 1.06 mnt was extracted from its Karnataka mines. The miner’s production from Chhattisgarh and Karnataka fell marginally by 5% and 7%, m-o-m, respectively.

Iron ore sales fall in Feb’22

NMDC reported a 6% decrease in its total iron ore sales in Feb’22 to 3.97 mnt as against 4.24 mnt in Jan’22. Total sales from the Chhattisgarh mines stood at 2.76 mnt and the remaining 1.21 mnt were from its Karnataka mines.

Notably, the mining major reported its best ever production and sales performance for February month since its inception.

Cumulative performace

NMDC recorded the cumulative iron ore output of 37.18 mnt in Apr’21-Feb’22, achieving a growth of 26%, as against 29.52 mnt in the corresponding period last year (CPLY).

Cumulative iron ore sales during Apr’21-Feb’22 stood at 36.57 mnt, a y-o-y rise of 25%, as compared to 29.15 mnt in the same period last year.
