India’s largest iron ore miner, NMDC, produced 3.33 million tonnes (mn t) of the steel-making raw material in Oct’21, up 24% m-o-m, SteelMint learnt from the company’s recent BSE filing.
Production had been impacted during the monsoon and regained momentum post-rainy season.
Out of the total volume produced in Oct’21, a major chunk was recorded from its Chhattisgarh mines at 2.34 mn t, while the remaining 0.99 mn t was extracted from the company’s Karnataka mines. The miner’s production from Chhattisgarh increased by 41% m-o-m. However, production from Karnataka decreased by 4% m-o-m.
NMDC recorded iron ore output of 21.04 mn t during FY’22 (Apr-Oct’21) vis-a-vis 14.66 mn t in the corresponding period last year (CPLY). The cumulative iron ore production increased 43% over CPLY.
Iron ore sales up in Oct’21
NMDC recorded a 29% increase in its total iron ore sales in the month under review to 3.58 mn t as against 2.73 mn t in September. Total sales from the Chhattisgarh mines stood at 2.41 mn t and the remaining 1.17 mn t were from its Karnataka mines.
The miner’s cumulative iron ore sales in FY’22 (Apr-Oct’21) increased 43% over CPLY.
NMDC’s current EC limit is 51.9 mn t and plans are afoot to expand it to 83 mn t.
