India: NMDC resumes normal iron ore dispatches in CG

NMDC, India’s largest iron ore mining company, has resumed normal dispatches at its Bacheli iron ore mining complex in the state of Chhattisgarh since Friday.

Loading activities were hampered since 12 June when the state government had disallowed NMDC to use its loading facilities to store iron ore prior to dispatching them in wagons, claiming that the company was storing iron ore offsite, a claim NMDC disputes. NMDC was able to send iron ore only through its slurry pipeline and load it on wagons without prior storage from 12-18 June.

“The issue has not been resolved yet and remains under discussion, but NMDC has been allowed to use its loading sites since Friday,” said an NMDC official. Around 6-7 rakes have been loaded on Saturday and Sunday in addition to 3 on Friday.

NMDC had continued to mine iron ore at the complex last week despite the halt in loadings. “There has been no issue regarding NMDC’s mining in Bacheli. The loading issue is a separate one and is being handled by the district collector,” said a Raipur-based official of the Chhattisgarh mines ministry.
