Iron ore major NMDC has decided to demerge its proposed 3 mn t pa greenfield steel plant at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh in what is widely viewed as the first step towards privatising the INR 20k crore project, as Chhattisgarh CM B. Baghel has conveyed to PM Modi. Non-availability of labourers and foreign technical experts during COVID-19 have held back commissioning of the plant initially slated for mid-2020.
