NCL Coal Production and Dispatch

India: NCL announces grade specification for Krishnashila CHP

Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL), the mining arm of CIL operating in Madhya Pradesh, has specified grade of coal to be supplied from its newly commissioned Krishnashila project in pursuance with the Colliery Control and Coal Mines Amendment Rules.

The company notified that it will dispatch G8 grade of non-coking coal (having GCV 4900-5200 kCal/kg) through the coal handling plant at Krishnashila, which would be produced from the Turra and Purewa bottom seams.

The recent development is an extension of the re-gradation of coal grades sanctioned by Coal Controller Organisation in Nov ’20, wherein approval was taken for grade of 20 seams falling under 8 mines including Krishnashila. (Detailed list can be seen here).

Specified coal holds good value for various cement and steel industries, which would be benefitted from the swift coal evacuation from the CHP/silo.

On the performance front, NCL is only the second-subsidiary after MCL to record positive growth in coal production for FY ’21. The company has produced 73.7 mn t coal during Apr-Nov ’20 which increased 5% y-o-y from 69.9 mn t in the year-ago period.

In contrast, dispatch has noted a slight dip of 0.8% to 69.6 mn t in the 8 month period.
