India: Mundra port to receive highest quantity of thermal coal vessels by October end

The vessel-line up data (as on 15 Oct’20) maintained with CoalMint reveals that a total quantity of 3.54 mn t of thermal coal is coming into India by next ten days.

  • The highest quantity of 0.67 mn t is set to arrive at Mundra port with all the quantity coming from Indonesia.
  • Coastal Gujrat Power has the largest shipment of 0.35 mn t coming at Mundra port.
  • Following Mundra, Gangavaram is the second port to receive highest quantity of 0.39 mn t thermal coal with maximum quantity (0.17 mn t) coming from South Africa followed by 0.19 mn t from Australia.
  • Dahej port is the next highest receiver of thermal coal at 0.34 mn t with majority quantity (0.20 mn t) coming from Indonesia.

Highest quantity of coal coming from Indonesia

Out of the total quantity of thermal coal vessels coming in, country-wise, highest quantity is coming from South Africa at 1.84 mn t followed by South Africa at 0.98 mn t.

  • In case of vessels coming in from Indonesia, highest quantity is coming for Coastal Gujrat Power.
  • For South African coal, Rashmi Group has highest quantity (0.32 mn t) coming in at Dhamra port, from Australia, Tata International (0.17 mn t) has highest quantity coming in at Vizag and in case of U.S., Swiss Singapore has the largest quantity of 0.12 mn t coming at Kandla port.

Adani Enterprise tops the buyers’ list

Adani Enterprise tops the list with 0.53 mn t of thermal coal expected to arrive at Indian ports from Indonesia (0.28 mn t) and South Africa (0.25 mn t).

Followed by Adani, amongst traders, Swiss Singapore has the maximum quantity coming in at 0.32 mn t followed by Tata International.

Outlook: CoalMint Analysis

In case of Krishnapatnam port where variety of buyers used to book their vessels, it is seen that Adani Enterprise has maximum quantity of thermal coal coming in.

As Adani Group has officially taken over Krishnapatnam port, coal buyers have adopted wait and watch approach as they believe that the handling and other expenses would increase at the Krishnapatnam port. While there is no confirmation on the same, people are sceptical of bringing in their vessels at KTPM port.
