India: MCL, SECL to auction over 4 mnt of non-coking coal on 10-11 Jul’26

  • MCL contributes over 80% volumes
  • G14, G13 grades dominate auction

Coal India Ltd’s subsidiaries, Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd and South Eastern Coalfields Ltd, will collectively auction 4.159 mnt of non-coking coal under the Single Window Mode Agnostic e-auction on 10-11 July 2026. SECL will auction 706,000 t on 10 July, followed by MCL with 3.453 mnt on 11 July.

The combined offering comprises predominantly ROM steam coal across grades G3 to G14, with supplies available through both road and rail modes. MCL’s basket also includes 200,000 t of washery rejects from IB Valley Coal Washery.

G14 dominates MCL’s auction basket 

The largest contribution comes from Integrated LBL, which has offered 804,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t through rail mode at a notified price of INR 930/t. Samleswari and Hingula have each offered 500,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t through rail mode, while Garjanbahal has placed 304,000 t entirely through road mode. HBM mines has also contributed 50,000 t of G14 coal.

G13 exceeds 450,000 t

MCL has offered over 458,000 t of G13 coal.

Lajkura OCP has placed 300,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t through rail mode, while Kulda OCP has offered 104,000 t through road mode. Orient UG Mine has contributed the remaining 50,000 t. The notified price for G13 coal stands at INR 1,016/t.

G12 offer crosses 350,000 t

G12 coal totals 352,000 t, with Ananta, Bhubaneswari and Lingaraj each offering 100,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t through rail mode. Kaniha has additionally placed 40,000 t through road mode. All G12 coal carries a notified price of INR 1,101/t.

Other grades

Siarmal has offered 154,000 t of G11 coal, comprising 150,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t through rail mode, at a notified price of INR 1,184/t.

Integrated LBL has also offered 8,400 t of G10 coal through rail mode at INR 1,360/t.

Kulda has offered 100,000 t of G8 coal, while the Nandira mine has placed 5,000 t of G8 coal and 10,000 t of G7 coal at notified prices of INR 1,931/t and INR 2,540/t, respectively.

In addition, IB Valley Coal Washery has offered 200,000 t of washery rejects at a notified price of INR 507/t.

Road mode accounts for over 3.41 mnt, or nearly 99% of MCL’s total offer.

SECL: G13 leads 706,000 t auction

G13 accounts for the largest share of SECL’s auction basket at 184,000 t.

Saraipalli has offered 150,000 t through road mode, while Manikpur has placed 30,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t through rail mode. Both carry a notified price of INR 1,016/t.

Churcha leads G3 offering

The Churcha cluster has offered 130,000 t of G3 coal, comprising 30,000 t through road mode and 100,000 t through rail mode. The representative notified price stands at INR 3,449/t, the highest among all grades offered in the auction.

G6 exceeds 100,000 t

SECL has offered 103,000 t of G6 coal.

Rampur Batura has placed 50,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t through rail mode. Sharda has offered 40,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t through rail mode, while Bagdewa has contributed 5,000 t. All carry a notified price of INR 2,761/t.

Balanced volumes in G14 and G8

Baroud has offered 74,000 t of G14 coal, including 70,000 t through road mode and 4,000 t through rail mode, at a notified price of INR 930/t.

Jhilmili has offered 25,000 t of G8 coal through road mode and 40,000 t through rail mode, while Dhelwadih has contributed 7,000 t of G8 coal. The notified price for G8 stands at INR 1,931/t.

Remaining grades

Pandavapara has offered 55,000 t of G7 coal, including 15,000 t through road mode and 40,000 t through rail mode, at a notified price of INR 2,540/t.

Saraipalli has also offered 50,000 t of G10 coal through road mode at INR 1,360/t.

The Rani Atari underground mine has placed 14,000 t of G5 coal at INR 3,005/t, while Shiwani has offered 14,000 t of G7 coal through road and rail modes. Bijari has contributed 10,000 t of G11 coal at INR 1,184/t.

Road mode accounts for around 550,000 t, representing nearly 78% of SECL’s total offer volume.

Road mode dominates combined offering

Road dispatches account for the overwhelming share of the combined 4.159 mnt auction volume, with MCL alone contributing more than 3.41 mnt through road mode. The auction basket is largely concentrated in G14, G13, G12 and G11 grades from MCL, while SECL’s offering is led by G13, G3 and G6 coal.

Notified prices range from INR 507/t for washery rejects offered by MCL to INR 3,449/t for G3 coal from SECL’s Churcha cluster. The sizeable offering is expected to attract healthy participation from sponge iron manufacturers, cement producers, captive power plants and other industrial consumers.
