India: KJS Ahluwalia Group Commences Pellet Production in Odisha

Odisha’s merchant iron ore miner and steel making group – KJS Ahluwalia has commenced pellet production in Barbil Odisha. Sri Jagannath Steel & Power – a subsidiary under KJS Ahluwalia group has been heard to have commenced commercial pellet production at its pellet plant with 1.2 MnT p.a. capacity.

Pellet plant has been built with Straight Grate Technology from Ural Mash Russia. As per reports, the pellet plant has been set up with an investment of INR 300 cr in the premises of Sri Jagannath Steel and Power Sponge Iron at Uliburu, Keonjhar.

As per sources, the company will use this plant both for commercial and captive use. Presently, their pellet offers are heard at INR 4,800/MT (ex-plant), around INR 500-600/MT would be charged extra for loaded to wagons basis.

India has a pellet capacity of around 85 MnT. Eastern India accounts for a maximum number of pellet manufacturing units and holds more than 50% share in total pellet capacity of India. Odisha stands highest among all eastern states with around 30 MnT capacity followed by Chhattisgarh around 9 MnT, Jharkhand around 8.4 MnT and West Bengal around 2.4 MnT.

With the commencement of operations at the new pellet, availability will increase.
