India: KIOCL Concludes 50,000 MT Pellet Export Tender

Southern India based pellet maker – KIOCL has concluded another pellet export tender for around 50,000 MT consisting of Fe 64% content and less than 2% alumina. According to sources, the deal has been concluded at around USD 149-150/MT, FoB India. High-grade Indian pellets (with lower alumina content) has continued to remain a great source of interest for overseas buyers.

Towards the beginning of this month, KIOCL had concluded pellet export deal for similar quantity at around USD 148/MT, FoB India.

Last week an eastern India (Odisha) based pellet maker- Brahmani River Pellets (BRPL) had concluded a pellet export deal for around 55,000 MT for regular grade pellets (2.7% Alumina) at USD 154/MT, CFR China for September shipments.

As per sources, aggressive pellet buying from Chinese mills were not heard this week as mills were heard of holding sufficient stocks with them and buying of iron ore fines witnessed an improvement rather.

Spot pellet premium falls marginally- Spot pellet premium for Fe 65% grade pellets has come down marginally and is assessed at USD 87.1/DMT, CFR China, down by USD 1.8/DMT W-o-W against USD 88.9/DMT a week before. Spot pellet premium has moved down with an increase in spot iron ore fines prices.
