India: Jindal Stainless opens first stainless steel fabrication unit in Mumbai

  • Initial investment valued at INR 125 crore
  • Facility spans 4 lakh square feet area

Jindal Stainless has inaugurated its first stainless steel fabrication unit in Washivali, Patalganga, Mumbai, with an initial investment of INR 125 crore. The 4 lakh square feet facility aims to serve the bridge sector by fabricating key components, including various types of girders. This move marks a strategic expansion for the company to provide end-to-end fabrication solutions for India’s infrastructure growth.

The unit is expected to increase its annual fabrication capacity to 18,000 t by FY26-27, up from an estimated 4,000 t this year. The facility will directly create over 250 jobs. It also serves as a skill development center to prepare workers for future infrastructure demands.

Jindal Stainless emphasizes the advantages of stainless steel over carbon steel for infrastructure, noting its corrosion resistance and long lifespan exceeding 100 years with minimal maintenance. The company plans to expand its fabrication footprint across other regions of India, with sustainability features like solar power integration planned for future phases.
