India: Iron Ore Production Up 13% Y-o-Y in Feb’17

India’s iron ore production is witnessing significant augmentation in this fiscal and is likely to cross 180 MnT in FY17.

According to the recently released data by Ministry of Mines, Govt. of India, India’s iron ore production in Feb’17 was recorded at 18.5 MnT against 18.6 MnT in Jan’17. Thus, on monthly premises India’s iron ore production has shown stability.

On yearly basis, (i.e. compared to Feb’16), Indian iron ore production has exhibited growth of 13%.

In FY17, (till Feb’17) India’s iron ore production summed up to 171.21 MnT, up 26% Y-o-Y. From Apr’15-Feb’16, India’s iron ore production was recorded at 135.53 MnT.

Iron ore production in Odisha increased by 10% M-o-M and stood at 8.78 MnT in Feb’17 compared to 8.01 MnT in Jan’17. Rungta Mines (Odisha) produced 2.04 MnT iron ore in Feb’17. From Apr-Feb’17, iron ore production in Odisha stood at 85.4 MnT compared to 66.88 MnT in the same period last fiscal.

During Apr’16-Feb’17, NMDC produced 19.4 MnT iron ore from its Chhattisgarh mines and 10.92 MnT from its mines in Karnataka.
