India: Iron Ore Movement Up 13% M-o-M in Nov’17

As per SteelMint’s analysis, iron ore movement across major producing states of the country was recorded up by 13% M-o-M in Nov’17 to 11.07 MnT in Nov’17 as against 9.81 MnT in Oct’17. The figures are compiled on the basis of movements made via railways, trucks, Karnataka and Goa e-auction data and import data as per customs. The figures indicated do not include the captive iron ore movement of SAIL & Tata Steel and movement for exports.

 State-wise iron ore movement analysis:

 Iron ore dispatches from Odisha increased in Nov’17 – Iron ore dispatches from Odisha has witnessed a marked rise of 11% M-o-M in Nov’17 to 5.96 MnT in Nov’17 compared to 5.39 MnT in Oct’17. Rungta Mines recorded the highest dispatch in Nov’17 at 1.49 MnT in Nov’17, up 4% as against 1.44 MnT in Oct’17, followed by Serajuddin at 0.92 MnT and KJS Ahluwalia at 0.60 MnT.

 C.G. based units iron ore procurement increased by 36% in Nov’17:

NMDC iron ore supplied a total of 204 rakes of iron ore from its Bailadila mines (Chhattisgarh) up 6% in Nov’17 against 192 rakes in Oct’17. Out of 204 rakes supplied, 57 rakes were moved to state based units which were up 36 % M-o-M in Nov’17 against 42 rakes last month Oct ‘17. Remaining 126 rakes to outside CG based units and 21 rakes were exported.

 Karnataka iron ore e-auction sales depicted significant increase in Nov’17 –

Karnataka has registered an increase in iron ore sales via e-auctions in Nov’17. In Nov’17, the state witnessed an increase of 18% M-o-M in iron ore sales reaching 2.38 MnT as against 2.02 MnT in Oct’17. NMDC sold 1.15 MnT in Nov’17, up 46% M-o-M as against 0.79 MnT in Oct’17 via e-auctions. JSW Steel continues to remain the largest buyer at 1.73 MnT followed by BMM Ispat 0.14 MnT.

 Indian iron ore and pellet imports increased sharply in Nov’17 –

Indian iron ore imports (including pellets) increased by 49% to 0.86 MnT in Nov’17 compared to 0.58 MnT in Oct’17.  Out of total 0.86 MnT, 0.68 MnT were iron ore and remaining 0.18 MnT pellet imported .Essar Steel was the only importer of pellet from Bahrain. JSW Steel was the largest importer of iron ore with 0.34 MnT followed by Kamachi group 0.19 MnT. Another import vessel carrying 0.07 MnT South African lump was booked by Gujarat based steel mills and arrived at Kandla port in Nov’17.

Kenya turns out to be new destination for Indian iron ore exportin Nov’17 –

Indian iron ore & pellet exports moved up 20% M-o-M in Nov’17 and stood at 1.91 MnT against 1.59 MnT in Oct’17. Indian iron ore exports have increased marginally by 3% to 0.76 MnT in Nov’17 against 0.74 MnT in Oct’17. MMTC (that exports on behalf of NMDC) was the largest exporter in Nov’17 at 0.15 MnT, followed by Rungta Mines at 0.14 MnT and VM Salgaonkar at 0.09 MnT. Kenya turned out to be new destination for Indian iron ore exports at 0.05 MnT .

Indian pellet exports moved up 40% M-o-M to 1.16 MnT in Nov’17 compared to 0.83 MnT in Oct’17. KIOCL turned out to be the largest exporter and moved up four times in Nov’17 to (0.22 MnT) followed by JSPL at (0.22 MnT), Rashmi Metaliks (0.18 MnT), and Essar Steel ( 0.17 MnT). Other major exporters were BRPL (0.16MnT),Bagadiya Brothers (0.11 MnT), Arya Iron and Steel (0.05 MnT) and Jindal SAW (0.05MnT).
