India’s finished steel imports fell by 19% in April 2025 to 0.463 million tonnes (mnt) compared to 0.575 mnt in March 2025, as per data from the Joint Plant Committee (JPC). This marks a 20.9% decline from 0.585 mnt recorded in April 2024.
Finished steel exports down 17.2% m-o-m
India’s finished steel exports declined by 17.2% to 0.375 mnt in April 2025 from 0.453 mnt in the previous month. Additionally, this marks a fall of 25.7% from 0.505 mnt in April 2024, according to provisional data from the JPC.
Crude steel production falls 8.3% m-o-m
Crude steel production in April 2025 fell by 8.3% to 12.644 mnt from 13.789 mnt in the previous month. However, this was almost 3.6% higher than 12.208 mnt in April 2024.
Finished steel production drops 12.5% m-o-m
India’s finished steel production fell by 12.5% in April 2025 to 11.928 mnt compared to 13.631 mnt in March 2025, while on a y-o-y basis, it increased by 0.6% from 11.853 mnt in April 2024.
Finished steel consumption declines 16.1% m-o-m
In April 2025, finished steel consumption in India declined by 16.1% m-o-m to 11.867 mnt from 14.149 mnt in March 2025. However, consumption increased by 4.6% y-o-y from 11.348 mnt in April 2024.
