Apex industry body FICCI has pressed for commencement of operations at coal blocks which have been allocated in Odisha since 2015. Out of 12 coal blocks auctioned in Odisha, only three belonging to PSUs had been operationalised in the past six years NTPC’s Dulunga mine, Manoharpur of Odisha Coal and Power Limited (OCPL) and Talabira 2 and 3 of NLC India Ltd. Mines allocated to private sector companies had not been made functional due to delay in land acquisition and statutory approvals. The production capacity of these blocks is 97 mn t/year and they have a revenue generating potential of over INR 7,000 crore per annum, FICCI observed in its recent representation to the Odisha government.
