- Offers rise amid tight supply of imported titanium scrap
- Stainless steel demand provides market support
India’s ferro titanium prices increased by INR 5,000/t ($52/t) w-o-w to INR 365,000/t ($3,829/t) exw, although overall market activity remained largely stable. Suppliers were heard offering material at higher levels of up to INR 380,000/t ($3,986/t) exw amid tight supply of imported titanium scrap, but buyers resisted these elevated levels and continued to procure mainly on a need basis. This kept spot transactions limited despite higher offers.
In the downstream market, India’s stainless steel sector showed mixed trends. Finished flat prices remained firm on healthy domestic demand and tight availability, while long products edged higher despite subdued downstream buying. This provided some underlying support to ferro titanium demand, although buyers remained cautious about inventory accumulation.
In China, the ferro titanium market remained largely stable, supported by concentrated steel mill tenders and steady demand from special steel and alloy additive applications. However, weak spot activity, intense supplier competition and pressure from lower sponge titanium prices continued to limit price upside. Low-grade material also faced margin pressure from elevated aluminium powder costs.
Outlook
Indian ferro titanium prices are expected to remain largely stable in the coming week, with limited spot buying likely to cap further gains. Firm stainless steel prices may provide support, while buyer resistance at higher offers and cautious downstream procurement could restrict upside.
