India: ERW patra pipe prices show mixed trends w-o-w across regions

  • Higher input costs offset weak demand, keeping Raipur prices stable
  • Limited buying outweighs tight supply putting Mandi prices under pressure

ERW patra pipe prices (41-60 mm OD) showed mixed trends w-o-w across key markets in the week ended 14 August 2026. Prices in Raipur remained stable, supported by higher raw material costs despite largely need-based buying. In contrast, prices in Mandi Gobindgarh edged lower in line with softer HR strip and billet prices, reflecting divergent raw material trends across the two markets.

However, on a d-o-d basis, prices remained stable in both markets. Raipur pipe prices were assessed at INR 45,300/t Exw on 14 August, while Mandi Gobindgarh prices stood at INR 48,300/t Exw. Listed prices are Ex-works (Exw) and exclude 18% GST.

Weekly price trends

Raipur: ERW patra pipe prices in Raipur remained unchanged w-o-w at around INR 45,300/t exw on 14 August, as relatively firm raw material prices provided cost support, while limited buying interest constrained mills’ ability to pass on higher input costs through price hikes. A Raipur-based source stated, “Seasonal slowdown continues to weigh on demand, with buyers largely purchasing only for immediate requirements and avoiding inventory build-up. The cost support has helped prevent a decline in pipe prices despite demand remaining largely need-based.”

Another regional source said, “Prices are likely to remain under pressure in the coming days until monsoon-related disruptions ease and buying activity improves. However, while firm raw material costs are currently providing a floor to prices, the extent of this support remains uncertain unless demand improves meaningfully.”

Mandi Gobindgarh: ERW patra pipe prices fell by INR 200/t w-o-w to INR 48,300/t exw on 14 August from INR 48,500/t a week earlier. A Mandi Gobindgarh-based source stated, “Buyers continued to procure material only against immediate requirements, keeping trading activity limited and exerting downward pressure on prices. On the supply side, tight scrap availability restricted production and kept finished material supplies limited, providing some support to prices. However, the lack of sufficient buying interest outweighed these supply-side constraints, resulting in a decline in prices during the week.”

Another regional source stated, “Expectations of further price corrections amid the ongoing seasonal slowdown are keeping buyers cautious, limiting overall trading activity and leaving mills with little scope to hold or raise prices despite continued tightness in finished pipe availability.”

Raw material prices

HR strip (patra): HR strip (patra) prices in Raipur rose by INR 100/t w-o-w to INR 44,600/t Exw on 14 August from INR 44,500/t on 7 August. In contrast, patra prices in Mandi Gobindgarh fell by INR 200/t w-o-w to INR 47,300/t exw on 14 August from INR 47,500/t a week earlier.

Billet: Billet prices in Raipur increased by INR 400/t w-o-w to INR 38,800/t exw on 14 August from INR 38,400/t a week earlier. In contrast, billet prices in Mandi Gobindgarh edged down by INR 50/t w-o-w to INR 42,450/t DAP on 14 Aug from INR 42,500/t DAP on 7 August.

Outlook

ERW patra pipe prices are likely to remain under pressure in the coming week, as the seasonal slowdown and need-based procurement continue to weigh on trading activity. In Mandi Gobindgarh, lower raw material prices and cautious buying activity may keep prices under pressure, although some support could emerge if demand from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh improves as disruptions from the Kawad Yatra and Independence Day ease.

In Raipur, relatively firm raw material prices may provide some cost support, although limited buying activity could restrict the scope for any price increase. Overall, prices are likely to remain under pressure amid the seasonal slowdown, with any improvement in buying activity likely to be gradual and limited.
