India: ERW patra pipe prices rise w-o-w on higher raw material costs

  • HR strip, billet prices increase w-o-w
  • Market sentiment remains mixed, caution prevails

ERW patra pipe prices (41-60 OD) increased w-o-w on 16 January 2026 in both Raipur and Mandi Gobindgarh, driven by a rise in raw material prices. However, on a d-o-d basis, prices remained unchanged in both the regions, at INR 43,500/t exw in Raipur and INR 45,200/t exw in Mandi Gobindgarh. Listed prices are ex-works (exw) and exclude 18% GST.

A BigMint source noted that “slightly improved end-user demand, particularly during the middle of the week led to higher raw material prices, subsequently pushing prices upward.” However, the overall market sentiment remained mixed, with market participants adopting a cautious stance toward the end of the week.

Weekly price trends

Prices in both Raipur and Mandi Gobindgarh increased w-o-w.

Raipur: Prices rose by INR 1,000/t w-o-w to INR 43,500/t exw-Raipur on 16 January from INR 42,500/t on 9 January 2026. Trade volumes of around 1,000 t were recorded in patra based pipes in Raipur during the week. A BigMint source indicated that “the continuous rise in billet prices is pushing prices higher; however, customers are unwilling to purchase at such elevated levels, resulting in limited buying activity.”

Mandi: Prices inched up by INR 700/t w-o-w to INR 45,200/t exw-Mandi Gobindgarh on 16 January from INR 44,500/t a week earlier. Trading activity in patra pipes was recorded at around 3,500 t for the week. A BigMint source noted that, “tight billet supply in the market during mid-week, supported by improved finished steel demand, is further pushing prices higher.” Another BigMint source indicated towards the end of the week, “that clearer market direction is awaited as customers holding back purchases at such elevated levels in anticipation of a price decline, while manufacturers are continuing to push for higher prices.”

Raw materials prices

HR strip (patra): HR strip (patra) prices in Raipur rose by INR 700/t w-o-w to INR 42,900/t exw on 16 January from INR 42,200/t exw on 9 January 2026. In Mandi Gobindgarh, patra prices inched up by INR 700/t w-o-w to INR 44,200/t exw from INR 43,500/t a week ago.

Outlook

ERW patra pipe prices are expected to remain volatile in the coming week, with the market awaiting clearer direction. Price movement will largely depend on trends in raw material prices, while buying interest is likely to stay cautious as customers resist buying at elevated levels. Unless end-user demand improves more meaningfully, overall market sentiment is likely to remain mixed in the near term.
