India: ERW patra pipe prices drop w-o-w amid weak demand

  • Raw material tags drop, fail to offer cost support
  • Approaching monsoon to further pressure demand

ERW patra pipe (41-60 OD) prices in Raipur declined by INR 200/tonne (t) d-o-d and INR 400/t w-o-w to INR 43,800/tonne (t) exw on 23 May 2025. Meanwhile, in Mandi Gobindgarh, prices were down by INR 100/t d-o-d and INR 100/t w-o-w to INR 45,100/t exw. The market remained subdued amid persistently weak demand and limited buying activity.

Listed prices are ex-works (exw), excluding 18% GST.

Market updates

Raw material prices decline w-o-w: Prices of raw materials for ERW patra pipes, that is hot-rolled (HR) strips and billets, declined w-o-w, failing to offer cost support.

HR strip (patra) prices declined by INR 500/t to INR 43,500/t exw-Raipur on 23 May, compared to INR 44,000/t on 16 May. Moreover, patra prices in Mandi declined by INR 100/t to INR 44,100/t exw-Mandi on 23 May, compared to INR 44,200/t last week.

Steel billet prices in Raipur dropped by INR 50/t to INR 39,800/t exw on 23 May, compared to INR 39,850/t on 16 May. Additionally, billet tags in Mandi inched down by INR 150/t to INR 42,300/t DAP on 23 May, compared to INR 42,450/t last week.

Outlook

ERW patra pipe prices are expected to remain subdued in the near term amid weak demand and declining raw material costs. The approaching monsoon season is likely to keep the market under further pressure.
