Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) sold around 244,700 t of non-coking coal across four spot auctions held on 7, 13, 19, and 23 August 2025. Average bids varied between INR 3,971-4,948/t, reflecting mixed buyer interest. G4 dominated the auction, while G3 secured robust premiums.
Date-wise auction highlights
7 Aug’25: ECL sold 82,300 t at an average price of INR 4,948/t. G4 accounted for the bulk (71,800 t at INR 5,061/t), followed by small parcels of G11, G5, and G6. Kiran Khan (9,150 t), Siddhi Vinayak Enterprises (4,600 t), and Satyam Smelters (4,000 t) emerged as the top buyers.
13 Aug’25: Volumes stood at 51,450 t, with average bids of INR 4,046/t. Rajmahal OC sold 37,800 t of G12 at INR 2,068/t. G3 from Chitra OC fetched INR 4,641/t, reflecting stronger demand. Adani Power Ltd booked 25,000 t, while Mahadev Enterprises and Jaiswal Brothers also participated actively.
19 Aug’25: Around 89,050 t were sold at an average price of INR 4,711/t. G4 once again led, with 64,850 t booked at INR 5,102/t, while G3 (6,500 t) fetched a premium at INR 5,656/t. Buyers included Chinmoy Mondal (6,500 t), Ranisati Coal Carriers (5,150 t), and Shree Enterprises (4,650 t).
23 Aug’25: This was the smallest of the four auctions, with 21,900 t sold at an average of INR 3,971/t. G12 (12,350 t at INR 2,068/t) dominated, while G3 fetched stronger rates of INR 4,679/t. Shree Ganesh Enterprises, Mahadev Enterprises, and Chemico International Pvt Ltd were among the key buyers.
Grade-wise trends
G4 contributed more than 70% of the month’s sales, underscoring strong demand for mid-CV grades. G3 recorded premiums, reflecting selective demand from industrial users. Meanwhile, G12 moved in bulk at lower rates, showing its continued role as a base-grade supply.
