Coking Coal imports into India in Feb’17 were around 5.2% lower than that in Jan’17.
Coking Coal imports into the country in the month under review were lower as most Met Coke producers in the country postponed their imports in the prospect of Coking Coal prices declining to significant levels.
According to the data compiled by CoalMint Research, 3.8 MnT of Coking Coal was imported into India in Feb’17. In the previous month, the coal imports were moderately higher at 4.01 MnT.

A notable aspect in the import pattern is that Indian buyers preferred countries other than Australia for importing the coal. Coking Coal production in USA, Mozambique, Canada and Russia have increased, resulting in export availability going up.

Among the various ports in the country, the Dhamra port had handled the highest volume of the import traffic during the month under review; followed by the Mormugao and Paradip ports.

The major importers during the month were: KIC Metaliks, SAIL, JSW Steel, Jindal Steel & Power Limited, Arya Iron, Rawmet Commodities, BLA Coke, Electrosteel Casting , Amba River Coke, Bhusan Steel, Saurashtra Fuels, Vedanta, among others.
