India: Coal imports rise by 13% y-o-y in CY22

Coal imports into India rose by 13% y-o-y to 245.58 mnt in Jan-Dec’22 (CY22), CoalMint’s vessel line-up data revealed. Coking coal imports rose marginally to 55.9 mnt while thermal coal imports went up by 15% to 161.5 mnt in the past year. The rise in thermal coal imports came despite a surge in global prices. The highest imports were of Indonesian coal.
