Coal imports at India’s 12 major ports has decreased by 13% Y-o-Y to 46.33 MnT during Apr’17-Jul’17, compared with 53.37 MnT during Apr’16-Jul’16, according to the data released by Indian Ports Association.
Indian Ports Association (IPA)was constituted primarily for growth and development of the 12 ports namely Kolkata( including Haldia dock complex), Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Kamrajar(Ennore), Chennai, V.O. Chidambaranar, Cochin, New Mangalore, Mormugao, Mumbai, JNPT and Kandla.
The ports under the supervisory control of Ministry of Shipping, handles approximately 65% of the country’s total cargo traffic.
Grade-wise Coal during Apr’17-Jul’17:
Thermal and steam coal imports at the top 12 ports has fell 17% Y-o-Y to 29.82 MnT during Apr’17-Jul’17, compared with 36.09 MnT during Apr’16-Jul’16.
Thermal coal imports have been declining as a result of enhanced domestic coal production from CIL. However, Coking coal and others coal imports has also dipped by 4% during the current fiscal.
Coking coal imports at the 12 ports was recorded at 16.51 MnT during Apr’17-Jul’17 compared with 17.28 MnT during Apr’16-Jul’16.
Major Coal Importing Ports:
Paradip port has handled the majority of coal traffic during the current fiscal, followed by Ennore port, Kolkata port( including import total of Haldia port) and Kandla port.
Chennai port and JNPT have not received any coal shipments during FY17.
