India: CIL identifies 15 greenfield coal blocks with capacity of 160 mn t/year

As many as 15 new coal blocks with a capacity of 160 mn t per annum have been identified by state-owned Coal India Ltd. (CIL) that are expected to boost domestic supplies, Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi informed recently. CIL has inked agreements with linked power plants under the government’s import substitution rule for total allocation of 12 mn t of coal every year. The coal major has already provided 9.53 mn t of coal to these plants till Feb’21, Joshi informed.
