India: CIL fails to achieve Monthly Production Target by 7%

Coal India Limited, the world’s largest coal miner, has again failed to achieve its coal production target by 7% in Jan’15 regarding targeted quantity.

CIL has produced about 46.6 MnT coal instead of targeted 50.09 MnT in Jan’15. The company’s monthly production has fallen slightly against previous month.

SECL, a major subsidiary of CIL, has produced highest quantity of about 12.4 MnT, followed by MCL & NCL and produced 10.7 MnT & 6.9 MnT coal respectively. Its total production in Q3 FY15 has slipped by 1.3% compared to the targeted production.

Viewing expeditious rising coal demand in India, the company is taking measures to raise its production. But, it seems ineffective amid few domestic issues such as CIL’s workers strike in last month, which had affected its daily output by almost half as well as de-allocation of coal blocks in the country.

The company had recorded about 342.3 MnT coal in Apr’14-Jan’15 instead of targeted 353.47 MnT for the same period. In current fiscal, CIL has set a target to produce about 507 MnT of coal, which seems unrealistic as the company has been failed to achieve its targeted production.
