India: Bids in SAIL’s auction of defective steel shoot up by around INR 2,600/t ($35)

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) conducted an auction from its Central India based Bhilai Steel Plant for defective steel products on 31 Mar ’21.The bid prices for bloom shot up by INR 2,650/t against the previous auction conducted on 19 Mar’21. Hike in raw material prices and active finished steel demand has resulted in price hike.

A total quantity of 16,285 t of defective steel was put up for auction on 31 Ma’21, in which 97.84% material was sold out and 351 t remained unsold.

Billet lot fetched bid at around INR 40,750/t & Blooms at INR 35,850/t exw.

SteelMint’s billet index stood at (Exw Raipur) = Rs 41,250 on 31 Mar’21.
