In order to promote safe and sustainable mining practices, the Ministry of Coal (MoC) has introduced star ratings for coal mines based on various efficiency parameters. The provision aims to identify the best performers, which required the operational mines to do a self-evaluation. Based on this, the Coal Controller’s Organisation did a subsequent validation. For the inaugural base year FY ’19, 8 coal mines have been awarded five-star rating out of the 357 mines in contention.
