Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG), Govt. of Goa has redistributed the iron ore extraction quota of 30 major mining leases. In a bid to achieve the 20 MnT pa iron ore cap in the state, the state government has decided to allow the major mining companies to use the quota of inactive lease holders.
An official from Goa DMG shared “We are trying to attain the state’s iron ore production up to the laid cap by the government of 20 MnT pa. We have redistributed the extraction limits and enhanced limits of major iron ore mining companies in Goa who can produce more iron ore by end of this fiscal ”.
As per reports, 30 mining leases across the state have applied before the DMG to enhance their existing iron ore quota. The mining department invited applications from those mining lease holders who have exhausted their allotted quota. Following which DMG has redistributed the mining cap within the cap limit.
Vedanta – Goa’s largest iron ore miner in its recently announced quarterly results highlighted that the company achieved annual mining production cap in Jan’17 and received additional mining allocation in Goa for FY17. The company achieved iron ore production of 5.2 MnT form its Goa mines in first nine months of this fiscal.
