Steel major Thyssenkrupp has tied up with German power company Steag GMBH for delivery of hydrogen to its Duisburg facility, to commence latest by 2025. “We will put a direct reduction facility into operation at the site which will enable iron to be produced with almost zero emissions using hydrogen rather than by burning coke,” said Marie Jaroni, Head of Decarbonisation. The company aims to reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2030.
