India’s foundry scrap market remained firm w-o-w on 15 September 2026, with foundry plate scrap prices increasing by INR 700-800/t in Chennai and Coimbatore. Low-Mn CR-busheling prices also increased by INR 300/t in southern markets.
Meanwhile, Kolhapur and Kolkata prices remained unchanged w-o-w, following the sharp increases recorded in the previous weeks. Tight raw material availability continued to support seller offers, while foundries and scrap buyers largely remained focused on requirement-based purchases.
The latest price movement indicates that the southern markets continue to face tighter availability, while buying activity in western and eastern markets has become more cautious following the earlier price surge.

Kolhapur (west India)
Kolhapur market sentiment remained firm, although prices were unchanged w-o-w.
Foundry plate (4-8 mm) prices remained stable at INR 41,500/t, while Low-Mn CR-busheling prices were unchanged at INR 45,000/t.
Market participants said buyers remained cautious after the sharp price increases witnessed in recent weeks. Mills continued to procure material based on immediate requirements, while sellers maintained their offers amid relatively tight scrap availability.
Kolkata (east India)
Kolkata foundry plate prices remained unchanged w-o-w at INR 41,500/t.
The market remained firm, with buyers continuing to make need-based purchases. After the significant price increases seen earlier, market participants are closely monitoring scrap availability and secondary steel prices before making larger bookings.
Chennai & Coimbatore (south India)
Southern markets recorded another round of price increases, with both Chennai and Coimbatore witnessing gains in foundry plate and Low-Mn CR-busheling prices.
In Coimbatore, foundry plate (8-50 mm) prices increased by INR 700/t w-o-w to INR 42,000/t, from INR 41,300/t previously. Low-Mn CR-busheling prices rose by INR 300/t to INR 45,600/t, from INR 45,300/t.
In Chennai, foundry plate (8-50 mm) prices increased by INR 800/t w-o-w to INR 40,300/t, from INR 39,500/t previously. Low-Mn CR-busheling prices increased by INR 300/t to INR 43,800/t, from INR 43,500/t.
Market sources attributed the continued price firmness to tight scrap availability and higher replacement costs. Buyers remained active but largely restricted purchases to immediate requirements, while sellers continued to hold firm on offers due to limited availability of suitable melting scrap.
Outlook
India’s foundry scrap market is expected to remain firm in the coming week, although price movements may vary across regions.
Southern markets could witness further upward movement if raw material availability remains tight and secondary steel prices stay elevated. In contrast, Kolhapur and Kolkata may remain range-bound following the sharp price increases recorded in recent weeks.
