- The European Parliament voted to approve a proposal to revise Waste Shipment Regulation (WSR) that will impose controls on scrap exports from the EU to non-OECD countries.
- Under the revised WSR, only non-OECD nations that apply for permission and demonstrate to manage waste sustainably through third-party audits will be allowed to export non-hazardous waste which includes ferrous and non-ferrous scrap.
