Essar Steel’s Iron Ore & Pellet Sourcing Up 15% in Nov’16

In line with increased iron ore sourcing, company’s pellet exports also doubled in Nov’16.

Essar Steel – an integrated steelmaker with steel making capacity of 10 MnT pa has increased its iron ore & pellet sourcing by 15% M-o-M from 0.96 MnT in Oct’16 to 1.1 MnT in Nov’16.

Sourcing from NMDC (C.G.) fell 11% M-o-M – The steel giant sourced 0.49 MnT iron ore fines from NMDC’s Bailadila mines in Chhattisgarh in Nov’16 compared to 0.56 MnT in Oct’16.

Iron ore sourcing from Odisha based merchant mines up 23% M-o-M – The steel maker procured 0.32 MnT iron ore from Serajuddin Mines (up 33% M-o-M) and 0.14 MnT from KJS Ahluwalia mines (up 8% M-o-M). Remaining quantity of iron ore sourced was from Indrani Patnaik mines, MESCO and Kaypee Enterprises.

Essar Steel imported pellets from Australia – Unlike Oct’16, Essar Steel imported a vessel of 106,000 MT pellets from Australia at Hazira port in Nov’16.

So far in this fiscal (till Nov’16), the steel maker has procured 7.59 MnT iron ore & pellets from domestic sources as well as through imports.

Essar Steel remained 2nd largest Indian pellet exporter in Nov’16 –
Essar Steel exported 0.2 MnT pellets in Nov’16 against 0.1 MnT in Oct’16 and remained 2nd largest pellet exporter. From Apr-Nov’16, the company has exported 0.78 MnT pellets.

Coastal pellet movement of Essar Steel up 18% in Nov’16 – As per customs data maintained with SteelMint, Essar Steel moved nearly 0.84 MnT pellets from its Vizag and Paradip plants to its Hazira facility in Nov’16 against 0.71 MnT in Oct’16.
