After a time span of 4 months, Essar Steel, one of the largest pellet producer is importing iron pellets. This is the first pellet import shipment from Australia in last 2 years.
A vessel named “Kamlesh” carrying 106,000 MT pellets from Australia’s Haypoint Port to India’s Magdalla Port and is arriving today.
The material imported will be used in Hazira based Essar Steel Plant which has an integrated steel making capacity of 10 MnT pa. It should be noted that Paradip based Essar Steel’s pellet plant ships 70-80% of pellets produced to Hazira based steel plant in order to fulfill its requirement.
The company brought last pellet import shipment of 72,000 MT in the month of Jun’16 from Bahrain. The pellet maker generally imports pellet from Bahrain , Saudi Arabia and UAE. In FY17 (till Oct’16), the company imported 137,500 MT pellets from Bahrain. Imports from Saudi Arabia and UAE remained nil during the same period.
