- Higher HR strip and billet costs lift pipe prices
- Buying activity remains limited despite sharp price gains
ERW patra pipe prices (41-60 mm OD) increased w-o-w across key regions in the week ended 1 October 2026, supported by a sharp rise in HR strip and billet prices. However, trading activity remained largely need based, with buyers mostly limiting purchases to immediate requirements amid uncertainty over further price movements.
On a d-o-d basis as well, prices rose marginally across both regions. In Raipur, prices inched up by INR 200/t to INR 50,600/t exw on 1 October from INR 50,400/t on 30 September. Similarly, In Mandi Gobindgarh, prices increased by INR 500/t to INR 54,800/t exw from INR 54,300/t a day earlier. Listed prices are ex-works (exw) and exclude 18% GST.
Weekly price trends
Raipur: ERW patra pipe prices increased by INR 1,900/t w-o-w to INR 50,600/t exw on 1 October from INR 48,700/t a week earlier. The increase largely reflected higher HR strip and billet costs. Despite the price rise, manufacturers reported limited improvement in enquiries, with buyers largely purchasing only against immediate requirements through most of the week.
Mandi Gobindgarh: Patra pipe prices in Mandi Gobindgarh surged by INR 3,400/t w-o-w to INR 54,800/t exw on 1 October from INR 51,400/t a week earlier. The sharp increase was primarily driven by higher raw material costs, while demand remained weak as buyers remained cautious at elevated price levels and largely avoided inventory accumulation.
A Mandi-based manufacturer said, “Buyers had adopted a wait-and-watch approach, awaiting greater clarity on price direction before replenishing inventories. However, buying activity improved towards the end of the week, as some buyers stepped up purchases to meet their requirements.”
Raw material prices
HR strip (patra): HR strip (patra) prices increased sharply during the week. In Raipur, prices rose by INR 2,000/t w-o-w to INR 49,600/t exw on 1 October from INR 47,600/t a week earlier. In Mandi Gobindgarh, prices surged by INR 3,400/t to INR 53,800/t exw from INR 50,400/t.

Billet: Billet prices followed a similar trend. In Raipur, prices increased by INR 2,150/t w-o-w to INR 45,750/t exw from INR 43,600/t. In Mandi Gobindgarh, billet prices rose by INR 2,300/t to INR 48,800/t DAP from INR 46,500/t a week earlier.
Outlook
ERW patra pipe prices are likely to remain firm in the coming days, with elevated HR strip and billet prices providing cost support. Manufacturers may seek to retain current offer levels following the recent price increases, while any sustained improvement in buying activity could provide further support. However, the extent of further price gains will depend on whether demand improves sufficiently to absorb higher prices and whether raw material prices maintain their upward movement.
