Mines Secretory has indicated that DMF (District Mineral Foundation) will be applicable from the date when MMDR act has been ammended. The central government will very soon decide the percentage of royalty to be put into the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) fund union mines secretary Balvinder Kumar said while stating that the funds will be applicable retrospectively from Jan’15 onwards.
The mines secretary also urged the Odisha government to constitute the District Mineral Foundation Funds (DMFFs) at the earliest. “Some districts will get funds of INR 200 crore to INR 400 crore under DMFFs. So, we have requested the state chief secretary to constitute DMFFs in all the districts as soon as possible so that funds can be transferred immediately,” Kumar said.
Pointing out that the funds would be utilised for the socio-economic development of the mineral-bearing areas and welfare of the people engaged in mining activities in the state.
What is DMF?
DMF is District Mineral Foundation, introduced in amended MMDR (Mineral and Mining Development Regulation Act). Under the act, miners of iron ore, bauxite, limestone and manganese ore will be required to pay upto 100% of the royalty on the mineral as their contribution towards the DMF, meant to support the project-affected people.
