Iron ore e-auctions in Goa have suffered a setback owing to monsoon & weak iron ore prices in China. Recently, the Goa State Pollution Control Board(GSPCB) granted consent to 57 mining leases to operate under the Air and Water Acts, subject to approval of mining plans by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM). The consent is valid for 1 year. GSPCB has also fixed an annual extraction cap of 13.79 MnT iron ore for these leases. The 57 mining leases should be able to commence operations during Oct’15, after the monsoon.
Previous E-auction received moderate response
The 6th Goa iron ore e-auction held on 19 May, 2015 received a moderate response with 44% of the offered quantity being sold. Out of 0.99 MnT iron ore that was offered by the suppliers out of which 0.44 MnT was sold. The sold quantity comprised of 0.23 MnT fines & remaining 0.21 MnT was lump.
