>> It seems the popularity of coal across the world is dwindling. Recently, at least 15 countries have joined an international alliance to phase out coal in power generation by 2030. The countries included: Britain, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland, New Zealand, Ethiopia, Mexico and the Marshall Islands. However, the major coal using countries: China, USA, Germany and Russia kept way from joining the alliance.
>>In what could be regarded as good news for South African coal users, the National Union of Mine Workers of that country has agreed to put on hold the indefinite strike to have started from 19 Nov’17 on wage issues after some coal producers there agreeing to increasing their wages. However, the actual course of action will be determined after the union sits for negotiation on 20Nov’17, in which the union will place its demand for a centralized wage increment instead of mine-to-mine basis.
>> It was heard, but unverified, that the Indian Coal Ministry has finalized a few Coking Coal mines in Mozambique for importing the coal in India.
