Coal India Anticipates 9-9.5% Production Growth in FY16

Coal India Ltd (CIL), state owned and India’s largest coal producer expect production to touch 535-540 MnT in FY16, which is higher by 9-9.5% as compared to FY15. Company produced 494 MnT in FY15 and intends to produce 598 MnT in FY17.

Coal secretary, Mr Anil Swarup today in an interview to CNBC TV18 said that CIL’s production figure will reach to about 535 to 540 MnT for FY16. The company had already produced 477 MnT of coal till Feb’16. The company’s expected production, till the end of the fiscal depicts a growth of 9-9.5% on yearly basis.It is to be noticed that center has set a production target of 550 MnT for CIL in FY16. cil Qty in MnT

Coal secretary, clears that CIL has not cuts its production but temporarily halted it due to higher coal inventories at mines head. He mentions that demand from Power producer is high as compared to last year but monetary situation at DISCOMs (distribution companies) has impacted coal demand. He is hopeful that coal demand will improve in next fiscal year with government policies, which will boost steel and cement demand in the country.

Indian coal imports to come down in FY16

Indian non coking coal imports will come down in FY16 due to higher production by Coal India. In FY 15 country imported 183.7 MnT steam coal, which is expected to come down to 165 MnT in FY16. NonQty in MnT
