In an apparent effort to bring in clarity to customers, the Coal Controller of India will study afresh the energy content of the coal extracted from the Coal India Limited’s(CIL) mines.
Subsequent to the study, coal of the 380 odd mines of the state-run miner will be re-graded, according the findings of the study. The new gradations are expected to be effective from 1Apr’17.
There will no grade slippages as the grade will match the energy content of the coal.
On the other side, the re-gradation will mean lower revenues for CIL as a large number of its mines produce coal with lower energy content than that indicated by the grades. As a matter of fact, coal price is directly proportional to the energy content.
