CIL Exploring Coal Export Opportunities Beyond Bangladesh

State-run Coal India Limited (CIL) is exploring coal export opportunities to the neighboring countries, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. In this context, it could be recalled that CIL has already been pursuing efforts to export coal to Bangladesh. According to the updated information available with CoalMint, CIL officials are in talks with prospective buyers in Bangladesh; however, conclusive outcomes are yet to be attained.

In fact, CIL is exploring opportunities for exporting the high grade variants that bear high ash content. These grades find less demand in India.

However, the coal major has kept away from considering exporting the lower grade coal as demand is picking up in the country. The depletion of coal inventories at the country’s thermal power plants has strengthened demand for the lower coal grades.
