Chrome Ore: Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) Meeting on 22-24 September

EAC meeting on 22-24 September to consider proposals of OMC, Balasore Alloys and Mishrilal Mines for grant of environmental clearance/ TOR.

The reconstituted Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest is to convene on 22-24th of this month under the chairmanship of M.S. Nagar. The EAC meeting, meant exclusively for the non-coal mining sector, is scheduled to consider/reconsider several proposals for grant of environmental clearance/ TOR.

The EAC will take up several proposals from Odisha including the proposals of Balasore Alloys, OMC and Mishrilal Chrome mines.

Balasore Alloys has applied for obtaining Terms of Reference (ToR) for conducing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Study for enhancement of production from 0.6 MTPA to 1.692 MTPA with open cast and underground mechanized mining method at its Kaliapani Chromite mines. The proposal will be onsidered by the EAC on 24 Sept’15.
The Odisha government owned miner OMC has applied for Amendment in environment clearance for relocation of the tailing pond within the lease area of the South Kaliapani Chromite mines. The proposal will be considered on 23Sept’15.

On the other hand,the EAC will also consider the application of Mishrilal Mines for reconsideration of environemntal clearance for enhancement of production of Sarubali Chromite mines from 0.136 TPA to 0.35 TPA along with a beneficiation plant.
